February 2021 Texas Bar Exam (UBE) and Texas March 2021 Exam -- Update

At an emergency meeting held yesterday afternoon, the Texas Board of Law Examiners discussed the recent severe weather events and statewide Disaster Declaration and the power and water disruptions that have impacted applicants taking the February Texas Bar Exam. Here's an update:

  1. The Texas Bar Exam is part of a multi-state Uniform Bar Exam (UBE), which will be administered remotely as scheduled on February 23-24, 2021.

  2. If you would like to defer to the July 2021 Texas Bar Exam (UBE), please message your analyst and we will transfer you to the July exam. No additional fees will be due. The deadline to defer to July 2021 is 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2021.

  3. If you have no power next week and need to take the exam at a hotel, we will reimburse up to $250. Simply message your analyst after the exam and upload a receipt in ATLAS.

  4. If you lose internet connection during an exam session, you will be able to continue working and finish that exam session. If you do not have internet connection to start an exam session, call the BLE at (512) 463-1621.

For those applicants who are unable to take the February exam next week, the Board will administer a Texas March 2021 Exam. A score earned on the Texas March 2021 Exam can only be used for admission in Texas—it will not be transferrable or portable to any other state or jurisdiction.

  1. If you are eligible to take the February exam next week and you do not take any part of that exam, and you do not defer to the July exam as outlined above, then you may register for the Texas March 2021 Exam. Registration procedures will be sent to eligible applicants through ATLAS after the February exam.

  2. The Texas March 2021 Exam will be administered remotely on March 16-17, 2021.

  3. The format of the Texas March 2021 Exam will be the same as the February 2021 Bar Exam. Areas of law that may be covered on the March exam include all areas of law that could have been covered on the February 2021 Bar Exam.

  4. The $80 that you paid to ExamSoft for the February 2021 Bar Exam will be applied to the Texas March 2021 Exam. No additional license fees will be due to ExamSoft

  5. The application fee you paid for the February 2021 Bar Exam will apply to the Texas March 2021 Exam. No additional filing fees, application fees, or exam fees will be required

  6. A score earned on the Texas March 2021 Exam can only be used for admission in Texas—it will not be transferrable or portable to any other state or jurisdiction.

The Board will continue to closely monitor the situation and will announce any updates on the Board's website and through ATLAS.
